Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Boys’ Soccer Finishes with Tough Loss in Round 2

The Bulldog Boys’ Soccer season finished this past Tuesday after a tough loss at Blessed Trinity.  The Bulldogs and the Titans faced off two weeks prior to their second-round playoff game and battled into overtime where BT was victorious.  Both teams were prepared for the rematch to determine who would advance to the Elite Eight of the GHSA Soccer State Tournament.  Decatur stifled the Titans’ attacking opportunities early in the game and took the lead on great effort plays by Bo Blanchard and Duncan Hall.  Blanchard chased down a defender and caused an errant pass that Hall took away from the BT center back and calmly placed by the keeper.  The Bulldogs held the lead for much of the remainder of the first half until Blessed scored twice after the Bulldogs could not clear their own defensive area.  Despite a valiant effort, the Bulldogs could not stymie the Titans in the second half.  The game ended with a final score of 4-1.

While the loss certainly stings, the Bulldogs have much to be proud of this year.  In a very competitive Region-5, Decatur won three critical games in overtime to claim the #2 seed in the State Tournament.  Their challenging regular-season schedule prepared them for a tough Apalachee team and an impressive victory in Round 1.  The Bulldogs will graduate 8 Seniors this year.  Each of these Seniors has made significant contributions to the program over the course of their careers.  While each of them will be missed, the Bulldogs return 19 players to their Varsity squad next year, all of whom will be ready to continue to build on the success of this year’s Senior class and those who have played before them.
